Play Breath of Fire IV on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)

The easiest way to play Breath of Fire IV on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.

Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.

Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).

🕹 Editor's notes

Developed and published by Capcom, Breath of Fire IV is the fourth installment in the series. Like the other games in the series, Breath of Fire was originally released for the PlayStation. Then the game was ported to Windows.

Like in all the previous games, you play the character Ryu and continue on his adventure. Ryu has the ability to transform into a powerful dragon. In this game, Ryu teams up with numerous other warriors to fight an awakened immortal emperor who plans to become a God and destroy the entire world. The game uses two- and three-dimensional graphics and the gameplay uses turn-based battles.

Gameplay

Breath of Fire IV is a role-playing game with traditional features with an isometric view of the game world. You can adjust the camera up to a full 360 degrees in certain areas. The environment of the game is in full 3D, but the characters are rendered in 2D drawn sprites.

The game world features interactable NPCs and objects. Players progress through the world by gathering clues on how to advance the storyline.

Like in Breath of Fire III, the \"Master System\" makes a return that allows customization of every character by assigning them as apprentices to different masters. The characters acquire statistic increases and new skills through the completion of missions, such as engaging in a number of battles or finding items that are specific to the mission.

Plot

In Breath of Fire IV, the story starts with Nina, who is in search of Elina, her older sister. During a diplomatic mission, Elina disappeared. Nina travels through towns and comes upon a crater where an alien object seems to have fallen.

As she investigates the crater, she sees a large dragon that transforms into Ryu. Ryu, who has no memories, proceeds to join Nina in her quest to find her sister.
