How to play Age of Empires: Pocket PC Edition on Mac
Game summary
Age of Empires: Pocket PC Edition is a conversion of Age of Empires: Gold Edition PC version. It keeps most of the features and functions of the PC version, and has both original Age of Empires elements and the The Rise of Rome expansion enhancements. Given limits inherent to Windows Mobile based Pocket PC devices, not all elements from the PC game could be converted.
The following are not in the Pocket PC Edition:
- No multiplayer support
- No support for large random map games
- No Windows Mobile based Pocket PC campaign editor
-If players have the PC campaign editor they can create games and download them for use on Windows Mobile Pocket PC Edition.
First released: Dec 2003
Play Age of Empires: Pocket PC Edition on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)
The easiest way to play Age of Empires: Pocket PC Edition on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.
Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.
Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).
