Play Gothic 3 on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)

The easiest way to play Gothic 3 on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.

Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.

Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).

Gothic 3 installation steps for Mac

🕹 Editor's notes

Gothic 3 is a role-playing game where a nameless hero needs to save humans from an orc invasion. It was developed by Piranha Bytes as a sequel to the previous version of this game called Gothic 2.

People who like to play open-world games will be familiar with this game. It is one of the best open-world RPGs created in the mid-2000s era. You have to go around as a nameless hero who joins the fight against the orcs.

However, this game also allows you to be a part of the orc regime, aiding them in conquering the human world.

Plot

The plot of this game revolves around the nameless hero, played by you and his group of friends. They go on a mission to a new continent under siege by orcs.

The hero arrives from the previous version of Gothic 3 without any of his possessions. When he arrived on the new continent, he found that the orcs enlaved all the peace-loving humans.

He now has to decide between fighting for the humans by joining King Rhobar, who previously exiled him, or becoming a part of the orcs. There is another option where the hero can choose to go on a personal mission.

Gameplay

In Gothic 3, you will have to go on missions where you kill monsters and wild animals to obtain experience and master your skills. There are six factions in this game, and you are allowed to join any three of them.

For each level you reach, you will earn points that help you learn new skills, like fighting with two swords, using a shield coupled with extra strength, or firing arrows with alchemy perks.

There are also magic spells you can learn from specific places in the game, but you can use even more skills if you join the orcs. You can damage your opponents with minor hits in this game, making it possible for you to run and fight simultaneously.
