Game summary
Play X3: Farnham's Legacy on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)
The easiest way to play X3: Farnham's Legacy on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.
Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.
Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).

🕹 Editor's notes
X3 Farnham's Legacy is an unforgettable fan-made DLC expansion pack to the X3 simulation series. This exciting new edition was only possible after developers, Egosoft allowed fans to use the game's source code for their own creations. The result was a massive sci-fi expansion that transported players across the vast and mysterious galaxy surrounding us.
Modding communities have shown us what they can do and impressed us with their many custom renditions. However, a project as big as this deserves a huge level of applause and engagement. Overall, the approach is refreshing, and the scripting quality is at par with the official games.
Plot:
The story takes place shortly after the events of the X3: Albion prelude. An unknown event causes a total shutdown of all the gates that connect the many civilizations of the galaxy and renders space travel difficult.
The player finds himself lost and alone in space and must navigate his way back home without getting into trouble. Diplomacy is the weapon of choice here, as the player must use his speechcraft skills to prevent provoking any deadly factions scattered in space.
X3: Farnham's Legacy is all about using your wit to overcome the many obstacles on the horizon. Unlike in the previous games, players might find that they have to tone down their aggression to a nonexistent level.
Gameplay:
Farnham's Legacy is filled with hours of exciting space exploration with lots of planets, spaceships, and factions to discover. Fans will notice it is very different from Albion Prelude because inciting violence is only the last resort here.
Since the gameplay revolves around establishing relationships between the many space factions, the player has to think twice before choosing a violent outcome. Instead, patience, diplomacy, and relationship building are the three unsaid pillars of the game.
