Play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)

The easiest way to play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.

Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.

Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).

🕹 Editor's notes

Uncharted Drake's Fortune, published by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by Naughty Dog, is the first title in the hugely popular Uncharted series, which spawned multiple releases over the years. It was released in 2007 and followed the story of Nathan Drake as he searches for the lost treasure of El Dorado.

Setting

The majority of the action takes place on an undiscovered island in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Peru. After Nate and his friends have visited Panama and the Amazon jungle, the site of an ancient monastery and a German U-boat, it becomes the game's main setting.

The undiscovered island is an old Spanish settlement from hundreds of years ago. It is made up of a lengthy, deep forest, an ancient stronghold, a civilization submerged under water, and a temple housing a treasure vault. The deadly golden statue El Dorado, which was infamous for dispersing a virus that turned its victims into monsters, was also found there. Descendants of the colonists who were affected by El Dorado presently live on the island, which originally functioned as a type of residence for the Spanish and Nazis.

Gameplay

The game is played in a third-person view and heavily uses platforming and puzzles. The combat is the run-of-the-mill third-person gunfights with elements of close combat. Your character can jump, swim and move along ledges. He can also climb objects and swing from vines. He can also parkour through most of the game's locations, allowing him to progress.

The weapon variety in this game is slightly limited, although one might argue that it's enough. Drake can acquire new weapons, such as grenades, and use them against his enemies throughout the game. You can carry two weapons in the game; a two-handed gun and a revolver or a pistol.

Close combat is also present in the game allowing the player to play certain sections of the game in stealth. You can sneak up on enemies and kill them silently or rush forward and just knock them out.
