Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf is the fourth PlayStation golf title from Electronic Arts and first to promise you'll play 18 holes within 30 minutes. Play as the champion or one of seven other PGA Tour pros on five different 3D courses: TPC at Southwind, TPC at Summerlin, TPC at Las Colinas, TPC at Sawgrass and TPC of Scottsdale. There are a total of eight different modes of play: Practice, Stroke Play, The Skins Game, Tournament, Shoot-Out, Foursome Match, Four Ball Match and Tour Play, with the latter making its debut in this release. Tour Play lets you play in a season of five four-round tournaments referred to as events. Participating in each event will earn you money, but the goal of winning the major is your main incentive.

The easiest way to play Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.

Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.

Tiger Woods is among the golfers, along with seven previous PGA champions and the ability to design a unique player. The various game options include practice, stroke, tourney, skins, shoot-out, group games, foursomes, fourball, and driving range. Up to four players can play simultaneously with text and voice chat functionality.

About The Game

Like the previous PGA Tour titles, the game essentially uses the same core mechanics with some improvements in gameplay and some modifications of the UI. There are two swing modes that are available in the game, namely, the twitch-and-click and the Analog Pro Swing. 

In this title, the revamped swing bar includes all the relevant information that you would need during gameplay. The overpower mark has also been replaced with a gimmick that makes your character glow like electricity while you hit the ball with the club.

Final Thoughts

It's a golf game; what else can I say? Albeit old, it still does the trick of simulating a golf game on your computer. After all, there isn't much competition in the market for games that are focused on golf. 

The game itself isn't that inspiring, but it does the job. You get to play as Tiger Woods, and while that is amazing, it does get tiring. For golf lovers, the game can be fun. But they'll soon find that the gameplay gets repetitive as well.
