Game summary
It is 1942 and you are in Germany. The world is at war, you have been captured and placed in a high security PoW camp. It is your duty to escape. Escaping will not be easy – it will take careful planning and much patience. In the camp, you are closely guarded, whilst you follow the daily routine. You will need to slip away unnoticed to reconnoitre the situation or to collect tools and materials necessary for your chosen escape route. There will be many avenues of escape, some may be difficult to discover – they will certainly all be dangerous – perhaps impossible – each one requiring different skills or equipment.
First released: Dec 1986
Play The Great Escape on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)
The easiest way to play The Great Escape on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.
Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.
Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).
