How to play Pentominon on Mac
Game summary
A Tetris-like game with a twist: the pieces are composed of 5 blocks (hence the title "Pentominon"), and they fall in a sort of sequencer that generates hypnotic musical loops as the players progress.
To obtain higher scores the players have to delete rows in a particular way: if a single block remains "isolated" from the rest it begins to add extra points to the score in a so-called "ignition mode".
The game was developed and published in 2009 by xisai, and received an enhanced remake/sequel by the same authors in 2017 (Pentominon Transctiption, available on Xbox One).
The original version is no longer available due to the end of Xbox Live Indie Games program.
First released: Aug 2009
Play Pentominon on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)
The easiest way to play Pentominon on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.
Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.
Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).
