🕹 Editor's notes

Every gamer has heard of the God of War games, and though God of War Ghost of Sparta takes us back through the years, it still holds up as an incredible game even to this day. A traditional hack-and-slash action-adventure game developed by Ready at Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta is the sixth installment to the hugely successful series.

Chronologically, it’s the sixth in terms of the plot. In this release, players will assume the role of Kratos again, as he is still haunted by his traumatic past. He decides to discover his origins, and that is how the game's plot is set up.

Gameplay

The gameplay is like that of a traditional hack-and-slash game, which was pioneered by the Devil May Cry series. It follows almost the same combat system from the previous installments, albeit with some improvements and changes. It is still a combo-based combat system that encourages the player to chain combos for a higher score.

Kratos' main weapon is the Blades of Athena, which he has also used before in the previous games. He acquires an additional weapon later in the game. The gameplay also features QTE during cutscenes making the story feel more interactive. Players will also get to use three additional magic attacks and a buff ability which introduces variety to the combat. Platforming and puzzles are still present in this installment, like the previous ones.

Plot

Take control of Kratos as he tries to discover the secrets of his past as you fight your way through challenging enemies. The plot has been largely praised by critics and players for its compelling and engaging storyline.

If you ever wanted to learn about Kratos' past, then Ghost of Sparta is the installment you should play. It’s especially recommended before playing the later installments in the series because you’ll have a bit of a hard time understanding the plot in the later games.
