Play Daytona USA on Mac with Parallels (virtualized)

The easiest way to play Daytona USA on a Mac is through Parallels, which allows you to virtualize a Windows machine on Macs. The setup is very easy and it works for Apple Silicon Macs as well as for older Intel-based Macs.

Parallels supports the latest version of DirectX and OpenGL, allowing you to play the latest PC games on any Mac. The latest version of DirectX is up to 20% faster.

Our favorite feature of Parallels Desktop is that when you turn off your virtual machine, all the unused disk space gets returned to your main OS, thus minimizing resource waste (which used to be a problem with virtualization).

🕹 Editor's notes

Daytona USA 1 is one of the best arcade-driving games, and it has been around for a couple of decades since its release in 1993. This game features stock cars that race on a variety of courses.

During that era, video game graphics were not up to a satisfactory level, but Daytona USA 1 changed the game. It received lots of praise and laurels for its outstanding graphics and realistic imagery.

It is one of the best-selling arcade games to date, and it continues to have an impact on the arcade racing game universe.

Plot

The Daytona USA 1 racing game was developed as an inspiration by the NASCAR motorsport races in America.

Its developer, SEGA, wanted to create a better arcade racing game than Ridge Racer.

These cars race against each other against the clock, and you can gain additional time in the game by passing checkpoints.

Gameplay

Daytona USA 1’s gameplay is similar to most arcade racing games in the market. You need to insert a coin to start the game. The game starts with a screen showing the pole positions of the racers.

The game has three courses – Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. The Beginner course involves having to complete 8 short laps. The Advanced course has 4 medium-length laps, and the Expert course with 2 long laps. You get to select any of the three courses with the steering wheel.

Once you are decided on the course, you can hit the gas to press Select. In the Beginner Mode, you have to select your car and get ready to race. You start the race in the last position, and you will get time extensions anytime you pass a checkpoint.

After the race is over, you will be given your new pole position, depending on the total time taken to finish the course. The game will save your best lap record for future reference.
